For this project, we were tasked to design a restaurant of a different culture that would be based in America but still stay as authentic as we could be to our assigned culture. This allowed us to learn about respecting another culture and how to design without appropriating or disrespecting such different demographics. The culture I chose to design for was Cambodia. This Cambodian cuisine, CHARM, was inspired by the theatre. Upon researching, I fell in love with the intricate headpieces they wore and started diving deeper into the stories for more inspiration. From there, my designs evolved. I found, "The Story of the Serpent", and that is where this cobra mascot came to life. This design uses the cobra in a way that it looks as if it is dancing around the packaging. I made sure to include educational information, like layering the Khmer and English translations, so that the consumer has an opportunity to also learn about this culture.
